Ushahidi (Swahili for 'testimony' or 'witness') is the most well-known of the off-the-shelf crisis mapping web tools. It was created in the aftermath of Kenya's disputed 2007 presidential election as a platform where eyewitness reports of violence sent in by email and SMS were placed on a Google map.
